Manually Set Up E-mail with Microsoft Outlook Express using POP3
Learn how to configure Microsoft Outlook Express for use with your 1&1 e-mail account using the POP3 Protocol.
Outlook Express was included with Windows operating systems from Windows 95 up until Windows XP. Beginning with Windows Vista, Outlook Express was replaced with Windows Mail. Beginning with Windows 7, Windows Mail was replaced with Windows Live Mail.
Step 1
Launch Outlook Express from the Start menu on your computer and then select Tools > Accounts.

Select Tools > Accounts

Click the Add button and select Mail.

Enter your Display name. The display name is the name that will appear when others receive mail from your account. Click the Next button to continue.

Enter your display name and click Next

Enter your 1&1 E-mail address in the text box and click the Next button.

Enter your e-mail address and click Next

- Select POP3 from the drop down menu (A).
- Enter pop.1and1.com as the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server. (B)
- Enter smtp.1and1.com as the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server. (C)

Enter the information and click Next

Enter your full e-mail address as the Account name and enter the e-mail account's Password that was setup with the account. If you do not want to enter your e-mail account's password every time you send or check your mail, make sure that the Remember password check box is selected.
Click the Next button to proceed.

Click the Finish button to exit the wizard.

Make sure to select the newly added pop.1and1.com account we've just set up and click the Properties button.

Select the appropriate account and click Properties

Click the servers tab at the top of the new window that opens.

Check the box for My server requires authentication and then click the Settings button.

Make sure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected and then click the OK button.

- Enter 587 as the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port and check the box for This server requires a secure connection (A).
- Enter 995 as the Incoming mail (POP3) port and check the box for This server requires a secure connection (B).
- Click the OK button when finished to save your changes.

Enter the information and click OK

Click the Send/Recv button toward the top of the Outlook Express window to check your mail.

Click Send/Recv
Your e-mails will begin downloading!
Manually Set Up E-mail with Microsoft Outlook Express using IMAP
Step 1
Launch Outlook Express from the Start menu on your computer and then select Tools - > Accounts.

Select Tools > Accounts

Click the Add button and select Mail.

Select Add > Mail

Enter your Display name. The display name is the name that will appear when others receive mail from your account. Click the Next button to continue.

Enter a display name and click Next

Enter your 1&1 E-mail address in the text box and click the Next button.

Enter your E-mail address and click Next

- From the drop-down box, select IMAP as the e-mail account type. (A)
- Type imap.1and1.com as the Incoming mail server address. (B)
- Type smtp.1and1.com as the Outgoing mail server address. (C)
- Click the Next button to continue.

Enter the information and click Next

- Enter port number 587 as the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port and check the box for This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
- Enter port number 993 as the Incoming mail (IMAP) port and check the box for This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
- When finished, click the OK button to save your changes.

Enter the information and click OK

Click the Close button to close out the accounts window.

A new window appears asking Would you like to download folders from the mail server you added? Click the Yes button.

A list of all mail folders are displayed. All mail folders are set to visible by default however you can select mail folders you wish to hide. We will leave all mail folders visible by simply clicking the OK button and taking no other action.

Click OK
You will see the account added on the left-hand side of the Outlook Express window. Setup is complete!
